Welsh Government and Politics student supports Cadno’s public affairs work

We were delighted to have Ioan Phillips working with us recently on a Work Experience Placement with Cardiff University Student Futures. Ioan is doing a Masters in Welsh Government & Politics at Cardiff University and he will continue to support our public affairs work during this politically exciting and busy time.

What have we been up to?

Destination Renewables

At the beginning of the year, Cadno welcomed students from Pembrokeshire College’s Destination Renewables programme to the Senedd. Along with Senedd Member for Carmarthen West and South Pembrokeshire Samuel Kurtz, we presented to learners about the role of politicians, public affairs and policymaking in the development of renewable energy. We are hugely grateful to the Senedd for hosting and to Sam for taking the time out of his busy schedule to join the session.

Cardiff Rivers Group

Daniel, Sarah and Ewan were delighted to take part in Cardiff Rivers Group’s litter pick at Hendre Park Lake earlier this month. It was great to see the important work that the Cardiff Rivers Group and its dedicated community are doing to keep Cardiff tidy. Cadno will continue its support for the Group’s work.

Careers in Politics – Cardiff University event

Our Policy and Public Affairs Manager, Daniel Taylor was invited to contribute to the Cardiff University Student Futures ‘Careers in Politics Event’. He spoke to students about his career in politics and public affairs so far and reflected on his work at Cadno. We hope that the students in the room came away feeling positive about the incredible opportunities in Wales and beyond for politics graduates.

Future of the Energy Sector in Wales – Wales Week in London

It was exciting to attend Wales Week in London 2024, which grows in strength each year. We were in the audience at the Future of the Energy Sector in Wales event, held at the London offices of Gerald Eve. It was great to hear real determination for Wales to become a world leader in renewable energy, with technological development, a world-class supply chain, and investment in thousands of skilled jobs.

Marine Energy Wales Conference

The Cadno team attended the Marine Energy Wales Conference in Swansea in March. We heard from Julie James MS, who at the time was Minister for Climate Change. During her keynote speech, the minister emphasised that “extraordinary” support for marine energy remains at all levels of Welsh Government. With the recent cabinet reshuffle, it was promising to hear her assurances that a high level of engagement will remain regardless of the changes.

What have we got planned?

Cadno in Conversation: Women in Renewables

Cadno is delighted to be kicking off our Cadno in Conversation series with an event for women working in renewables, sponsored by the BlueFloat Energy and Renantis Partnership. We will be joined by Cabinet Secretary for Housing, Local Government and Planning, Julie James MS and Welsh Government Special Adviser Sarah Faye. Come and join us for some candid insights, networking and lunch.
